An online music publishing solution that empowers artists to collect their fair share of royalties. Songtrust excels by automating the back office and simplifies music publishing to a single form. Users are able to affiliate globally with music organizations, manage their existing catalog, and claim videos on YouTube to name a few features, all while seeing how their royalties are being paid to them globally.
Features I've Worked On
As the Product Manager I am responsible for the brainstorming, designing, deployment, and refinement of new features. I strive to bring value to our clients and our Operations team at every step of the user lifecycle.
Homepage Redesign, Marketing Rebranding, And Growth
In 2016, Songtrust was at a crossroads as we began to offer our service to different types of clientele and we found that our site didn't really speak to the many types of verticals we offer our service to. As the Product Manager I worked with our team to answer "What is Songtrust's brand? How do we market towards those groups of people? What is our voice?" After countless revisions we were able to pin down an aesthetic that spoke to who we are as a company, how we've grown, and the types of clients our product has transformed to serve.
Songtrust is software driven music publishing. We educate the DIY songwriter while also getting into the nitty gritty with lawyers and estate owners. Songtrust as a service speaks towards simplifying the overly complex and is an advocate for your songs around the world. Our rebranding took all of these concerns from the business and utilized them to leverage our new aesthetic.
The rebranding process was also a pivotal time for us to transition all of our marketing services over to Hubspot. This freed up our developers to solely work on the product, and leave the landing pages or marketing edits to our operations team. By transition to Hubspot and rebranding we were able to leverage their marketing suite and double our monthly signups.
Royalty Reports
Songtrust's royalty reports allow clients to see the amount of money owed to them (even to the micro penny) and exactly where the payment is coming from. Royalties are refreshed quarterly with estimated royalties refreshed many times per day, giving clients the ability to see up-to-date information regarding their payments.
Clients are able to compare how songs are performing against each other, see on a map where they're getting the most plays, and able to export their statements to CSV or Excel. Our Royalty Dashboard is the most complex feature we have, touching nearly every part of the business and has required intense organization to unify the many moving parts of the business at large.
YouTube Monitor
Songtrust's YouTube Monitor allows clients the ability to monetize their copyrights when they're used on YouTube. As the Product Manager and a Developer on the product I was responsible for working with our partners at YouTube to ensure stable API usage, bulk asset ingestion of 500k+ assets, and decreasing our time to asset creation to immediately after song creation.
Our YouTube product is one of our most complex products that involves a separate microservice for our SQS that searches YouTube for relevant covers or user generated content. The product is continually being updated, and has involved close working relationships with several parts of our team as well as our partners at YouTube.
